Abstract

The object of the study is the drama script of King Lear play written by William Shakespeare. The study is to reveal how material orientation is reflected in King Lear written by Shakespeare in 1606. The objective of the study is to analyze the structural elements in the play and to analyze the material orientation of the play based on Marxist perspective. The researcher employs the descriptive qualitative research as a type of the research. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the dialogues, statements, and actions of the King Lear drama script and the secondary data source is biography of character. The method of collecting data is note taking. The technique of analyzing data is descriptive. The result of the study is as follows. Firstly, based on the structural analysis, Shakespeare delivers a moral message that one’s action is usually motivated by material orientation and the structural elements are related each other and form a unity. Secondly, based on the Marxist perspective, Shakespeare reflects the social condition of Elizabethan people who tended to emphasize the material orientation

This study describes social mobility in Marie Antoinette movie. The objective of the research is to analyze the major character based on its structural elements and Marxist perspective. The research is conducted by using qualitative method. In this method, the researcher uses two data sources, namely primary and secondary data source. The primary data is Marie Antoinette movie directed by Sofia Coppola. The secondary data sources are the books about Marxist and the other sources, which are related to the analysis. The result of analysis confirms that first the movie has been done in the best way based on the story of history of American itself by the director Sofia Coppola. Second, it describes the social mobility of American in the turn of twenty first century, which is indicated by changing of social status and the type of social mobility is horizontal and vertical mobility. Horizontal mobility is the changing of social status from the same class. The Vertical mobility is changing of social status from the lower to higher class that can be categorized Marxist attitude.
