RON KOVIC’S STRUGGLE FOR BEING A HERO IN OLIVER STONE’S BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY MOVIE; AN INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH

The research investigates how ambition and regret influence the major character’s personality development in Oliver Stone’s Born on the Fourth of July movie, especially viewed by individual psychological approach. The objectives of the research are to analyze the movie based on the structural elements of the movie and to analyze the movie based on the individual psychological theory, by identifying the relation between the personality of major character and structural elements of the movie. In analyzing Born on the Fourth of July movie, the researcher uses individual psychological approach and qualitative method. The object of the study is the personality of Ron Kovic in Born on the Fourth of July movie. The data sources are literary data that are divided into two categories; the primary data source and secondary data source, the primary data sources is the movie. Born on the Fourth of July movie and the secondary data sources are other sources related to the movie. The method of analysis used in this study is descriptive analysis. Having analyzed the movie, the researcher can make the following conclusion, Firstly, based on structural element of the movie, it is evident that in this movie, Oliver Stone extends the message that to be a hero does not necessarily mean to go to war, but do something useful for others. Oliver Stone creates a character a Veteran Vietnam, who was paralyzed and become a victim of Vietnam War. The structural element of the movie has a related one to another that shaped a good movie. Secondly, based on individual psychological analysis this movie reflects an ambition of an American to get his fictional finalism.
