BETWEEN CIVIL LIBERTY AND NATIONAL SECURITY IN JAMES MCTEIGUE’S V FOR VENDETTA (2006): A SOCIOLOGICAL APPROACH

The problem of the study is to reveal how the tension between civil liberty and national security is reflected in James McTeigue’s V for Vendetta. The objectives of the study are to analyze the structural elements of the movie and to analyze the movie based on the sociological perspective. This study employs the qualitative method. The object of the study is V for Vendetta movie directed by James McTeigue. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the movie itself and the secondary data are script text and some references related to the research. The techniques of data collection are note-taking and image-capturing. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The results of the research shows the following conclusions. Firstly, based on the structural analysis, the structural elements of V for Vendetta movie is connecting to each other to a whole unity that cannot be separated one another in order to support each other. Secondly, based on the sociological analysis it shows there is tension between civil liberty and national security in government system. V for Vendetta movie criticizes the totalitarian government of England. V for Vendetta proposes that government should give justice and freedom of their people.

THE POLITICAL CONSPIRACY IN BRYAN SINGER’S VALKRYIE MOVIE (2008): A SOCIOLOGICAL APPROACH

This study is aimed to show the political conspiracy in Valkryie movie by using sociological approach. It is done by establishing two objectives: the first is analyzing the movie based on its structural elements and the second is analyzing the movie based on the sociological approach. This research is qualitative research. Type of data of the study is text and image taken from two data sources: primary and secondary. The primary data source is the Valkryie movie directed by Bryan Singer released in 2008. While the secondary data sources are other materials taken from books, journals, and internet related to the study. Both data are collected through library research and analyzed by descriptive analysis. The study comes to the following conclusions. First, based on the structural analysis of each elements, it shows that the character and characterization, casting, plot, setting, point of view, theme, mise en scene, cinematography, sound, and editing are related to each other and form the unity into good quality of a movie. Second, based on the sociological analysis, there is close relation between the movie production and the social reality underlying it, such as the global issues of conspiracy in a government. This movie also criticizes the assassination of leader to drop a cruel government for people affair.

Abstract
The object of the research is the novel entitled A Modern Instance by William Dean Howells. The study focuses on conflicts of values between traditional and modern culture as reflected in William Dean Howells’ A Modern Instance, using sociological approach. The objectives of the research are to analyze the structure elements of the novel and to analyze the novel based on sociological perspective by identifying the relationship between the novel and social background of American society in the late nineteenth century. The study belongs to qualitative study. In this method, the researcher uses two data sources namely primary data and secondary data. The primary data source and the object of the study in the novel A Modern Instance itself, while the secondary data are any literature related the study. The technique of data analysis in this study is descriptive to make an interpretation of the text and content analysis using deductive and inductive method. Having analyzed the novel, the researcher comes to the conclusions as follows: Based on the structural analysis and based on the sociological analysis. Based on the structural analysis it seems that William Dean Howells wants to deliver a massage to the reader that unresolved conflicts of values between traditional and modern cultures may result in social and psychological disharmony. Based on the sociological analysis, it is evident that in this novel Howells reflects that the people in that time which affects people’s in set of ethnics.
